About Us - NSW Property and Financial Services ITAB

The NSW Property and Financial Services Industry Training Advisory Body (PFSITAB) was originally formed in 1986 and is a non-profit organisation funded by the NSW Department of Education and Training and specific grants from other government agencies. Recently the PFSITAB also received funding from the Office of Fair Trading to establish an industry support line.A Board of Directors made up of representatives from the Property and Security industry sectors plus an 'employee representative' are responsible for overseeing the operation of the ITAB. Three specialist task group committees also assist the board and provide input on specific licensing and training issues. The task groups cover Property Services (ie real estate, business brokers, strata management, stock and station etc), Security (which covers all areas of the security industry with the exception of fire arms) and Firearms ( includes CIT, training and other specialist fields retating to the use of fire arms).An Executive Director and support staff are responsible for the day to day administrative function and ensures that the Key Performance Indicators outlined in the NSW DET funding agreement are met.

There is a real need for an industry body with the capability and commitment to monitor and improve the VET requirements and therefore contribute to the compliance of legislative requirements through the provision of educational programs to employers and employees. The NSW Property and Financial Services ITAB performs this role and also provides the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET), NSW Office of Fair Trading, (OFT) Security Industry Registry (SIR) with relevant information regarding VET requirements and implementation. The ITAB works collaboratively with the NSW OFT and SIR in regard to VET for licensing purposes.

Key functions of the NSW Property Services ITAB are as follows:

  • Act as a key voice for the Real Estate Industry generally and the SIR on issues related to Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the State of New South Wales and at a National level where requested;
  • Develop, improve, encourage and foster the implementation of systematic training for Licensing and Certificate of Registration purposes in New South Wales
  • Establish subcommittees/task groups for each sector (stock and station, business etc) that investigate issues and seek to improve Vocational Training and Education implementation.
  • Provide continuing and co-ordinated guidance and advice on the development of training and employment in the industry to the NSW OFT, SIR and other State regulators where required;
  • Work collaboratively with public and private providers in the development, implementation and compliance of training programs for licensing and employment;
  • Encourage the training and continual professional development of Workplace Trainers and Workplace Assessors within the Industry and setting up an "accreditation" program;
  • Provide VET policy advice to industry and government on industry training needs required to meet licensing requirements;
  • Implement the strategies jointly agreed on between ITAB and the NSW DET
  • Provide advice to the NSW OFT and assist them to make informed decisions related to the development, maintenance and implementation of the industry training packages;
  • Establish and participate fully in consultative mechanisms through which national industry related activities can be coordinated in other States and Territories and providing information and advice to DET, SIR and OFT for inclusion in National forums such as COAG
  • Work collaboratively with regulators in each State and Territory with a view to developing and implementing a national approach to licensing and the implementation of VET strategies
  • Set up a bipartite membership of the Board and ensure as far as possible a fair representation of the appropriate employer and employee groups in the Board's decision making processes;
  • Provision of information as required by the NSW DET as outlined in the current funding agreement
  • Provision of services to the NSW OFT,DET, SIR as required.
  • Implementation of strategies to achieve the long term objectives
