NSW - Industry Training Advisory Bodies (ITAB's)

Industry Training Advisory Bodies are key contacts for critical advice and assistance to the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) on the operations of the vocational education and training needs in NSW. The NSW Government funds NSW Industry Training. Advisory Bodies (ITABs), Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) and other organisations provide independent, representative advice to the NSW Government on: apprenticeship and traineeship arrangements, the provision of vocational education and training in schools,the development, review and implementation of training packages, accreditation and registration processes.They also assist in the identification and validation of business intelligence and research on the skill development and training priorities of industry, and actively promote the benefits and opportunities of vocational education and training to industry. The funded organisations cover the major industry areas active in the State and board members represent significant enterprise, employer and union stakeholders of the industry and its various sectors. Industry sector coverage in NSW includes:

  • Funding Objectives

Industry advisory bodies are funded under an annual Performance and Funding Agreement managed by Industry Initiatives, State Training Services. These funds are used by the organisations to provide advice and support to the Department on:

  • the making of Vocational Training Orders (VTOs);
  • the delivery of quality VET in Schools programs;
  • development of information resources on career opportunity and pathways in NSW industry;
  • the development, review, enhancement of Training Packages;
  • development of resources to support the Unlocking Training Packages initiative;
  • VETAB managed external review panels;
  • registration of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs);
  • accreditation of courses; compliance audits;
  • validation of research findings and initiatives such as Skills Centre proposals.

DET Head Office Responsibility The Head Office is responsible for managing, evaluating and reviewing the annual Performance and Funding Agreements, and for monitoring the performance and reporting accountabilities of the the funded organisation.
